White Sox Vs. Tigers Preview: Jake Peavy Takes The Ball As Chicago Tries To Take Down Detroit

The Chicago White Sox have struggled the past few weeks, but they get a chance to show they belong in the AL Central race this weekend during a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.

After jumping out to a surprising 10-6 start in the 2012 MLB season, the Chicago White Sox have lost seven of their last nine games and are limping into a three-game road series against the Detroit Tigers this weekend. The good news for Chicago is that Jake Peavy -- their best starting pitcher so far this season -- is on the mound in Friday's opener, and the best news is that Detroit is just 12-12 on the year and the AL Central race is still manageable at this point in the year.

The Tigers send Drew Smyly to the mound in opposition to Peavy, and if you need to find out who the heck Drew Smyly is, be sure to check out a terrific profile from Bless You Boys. The highlight from that piece is that he has an unusually high stranded base-runner rate (LOB%), and a regression to the league average would take his 1.23 ERA and push it much closer to a merely solid 3.85 ERA. Just something to consider.
