The Chicago White Sox (20-21) edged one game closer to .500 after they powered their way past Ryan Dempster (L, 0-2) and the Chicago Cubs (15-25).
Dempster pitched the first 6.0 innings for the Cubs, but allowed a pair of homers to LF Dayan Viciedo and C A.J. Pierzynski. Dempster departed with the Cubs trailing 4-0. Meanwhile, SP John Danks (3-4) pitched 6.1 innings with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk and kept the Cubs off the scoreboard to earn his third win of the season.
In the top of the 8th inning, 1B Adam Dunn popped his 13th homer of the season, to give the Sox a 5-0 advantage. A shaky outing from LHP James Russell and an error from 3B Joe Mather plated another two runs for the Sox. The Cubs added four runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs, as LF Alfonso Soriano and Mather each cranked two-run homers, but the Sox closed the door and finished with a 7-4 win.
