White Sox Vs. Cubs Final Score: Home Runs Propel Sox To 3-2 Victory

The Chicago White Sox got home runs from Paul Konerko and Gordon Beckham, Philip Humber was solid on the mound, and the Sox prevailed 3-2 over the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon.

Konerko's two-run shot in the first inning got the White Sox off and running, but the bigger story may be the Jeff Samardzija pitch that hit Konerko in the helmet and face. Konerko suffered a cut above his left eye and was forced to leave the game; the team is currently waiting on test results.

After Beckham's home run gave the White Sox a 3-2 lead in the eighth, Samardzija was relieved by Kerry Wood, who pitched to one last batter before calling it a career. After retiring Dayan Viciedo, Wood left to a huge ovation.

The second game of this series is set to begin at 6:15 p.m. CT on Saturday.
