The Chicago White Sox (1-1) and rookie manager Robin Ventura eked out their first of the season on Saturday, beating the Texas Rangers (1-1) in a 4-3 nail-biter.
SP Jake Peavy performed admirably in his first game of the season. After giving up three runs early the game, Peavey settled and managed to finish 6.0 innings with 5 strikeouts and only 1 walk. The duo of DH Adam Dunn (1 for 2 with 2 walks) and 1B Paul Konerko (2 for 4 with a double) both continued their hot start to the season, but the hero of the night turned out to be RF Alex Rios.
Rios appeared to be on track for an 0 for 3 night, but with CL Joe Nathan (L, 0-1) pitching in the top of the 9th inning, Rios clobbered a 93 mph fastball for a home run to center field. The blast pushed the White Sox to a 4-3 lead and gave RP Hector Santiago (S, 1) a chance for his first save of the season.
