Alex Rios hoping to string good seasons together for White Sox

The White Sox outfielder is aiming for a steady 2013 season.

Alex Rios' time with the Chicago White Sox has been a rollercoaster for him, the team and fans, but in 2013 he's hoping for a steady season. Rios has alternated between good and bad seasons while in Chicago, and if the trend were to hold true, the outfielder, who will be 32 years old on Opening Day, is due for another lackluster year. New White Sox GM Rick Hahn believes that won't be the case.

"There were mechanical adjustments made and clear differences in his approach that we, and he, feels contributed to his success," general manager Rick Hahn said. "It's stuff that is easily for him to maintain and for us to identify and correct if he starts drifting away from that."

Last year, Rios was a key member of Chicago's powerhouse offense. He hit .304/.334/.516 with 25 homers, 37 doubles and 23 stolen bases, putting together his best season since his final full year in Toronto in 2008. In 2011, though, he followed up a strong 2010 season with a horrid campaign that saw him bat just .227/.265/.348 while posting a negative Wins Above Replacement.

If all goes as planned for Chicago, Rios will once again help power an outfield including Alejandro De Aza and Dayan Viciedo that is one of the better hitting outfields in the American league. But if he has another year like 2011, some may be counting down the days until his contract expires after the 2013 season.
