The Chicago White Sox are the only team in the MLB that is projected to begin the 2013 season without a catcher with more than two years of experience. Tyler Flowers has seen time with the White Sox in four seasons, but has played in just 108 career games. However, the 26-year-old is slated to be the replacement for A.J. Pierzynski.
While Pierzynski left to join the Texas Rangers, the White Sox aren't showing interest in finding a potential catcher to replace the veteran and appear comfortable with turning the job over to Flowers, with the even less-experienced Hector Gimenez backing him up, according to Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago.
Flowers played in a career-high 52 games in 2012, but batted just .213 in 136 at bats, while Pierzynski finished with a .278 average for the season. The White Sox finished with a 85-77 record in 2012, but did not make the playoffs.
