Former White Sox pitcher Philip Humber was claimed off waivers by the Houston Astros on Friday after he was waived by the team that he threw a perfect game for in April. Despite the strong start to the season, Humber finished with an underwhelming year.
Humber, 29, earned his first victory of the season with a perfect game against the Mariners to drop his ERA to 0.63. However, by season's end, Humber had a 5-5 record and 6.44 ERA. His last start of the season came on Aug. 3, but after he gave up 10 hits and six earned runs, he served as a relief pitcher for the remainder of the year.
The White Sox also chose not to tender contract offers to first baseman Dan Johnson or pitcher Anthony Carter, causing the team to drop to 37 players on its 40-man roster. The White Sox finished the 2012 season with an 85-77 record, but did not qualify for the postseason.
