For most of the season, John Danks was the hard luck loser. He'd turn in quality starts, only to be denied a win by a bullpen meltdown or impotent offense. Lately, though, he's managed to run off a series of good trips to the mound and has been racking up the W's in the process. Now, the White Sox will hope he can help them rebound from a game one loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night.
Danks, 4-8 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.33 WHIP, is coming off an excellent start against Detroit in which he gave up just one earned run on six hits and three walks, while striking out ten, over 6.0 innings pitched. In his career against the Yankees, Danks is 2-2 with a 7.36 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. Over his career, Robinson Cano is 5-for-10 against Danks, with a double and a home run, while Nick Swisher is 4-for-10, also with a home run.
Phil Hughes, 1-3 with an 8.24 ERA and 1.89 WHIP, will start for the Yankees on Tuesday. Hughes' last start, against Seattle, was at tough luck loss. He gave up just two runs on nine hits and a walk over 6.0 innings, but wound up with another L on his record. In his career against the White Sox, Hughes is 1-1 with a 1.00 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. Alex Rios is 7-for-16 against Hughes in his career, with two doubles.
The weather in Chicago is forecast to be warm and cloudy, with scattered thunderstorms. Weather permitting, first pitch is at 7:10 P.M., CDT, and the game will be televised on WCIU and YES.
