The White Sox used on a lineup on Thursday that probably left many Sox (40-42) fans scratching their heads. A team that has struggled scoring runs gave days off to Paul Konerko, Carlos Quentin, and A.J. Pierzynski who have been three of their better hitters all season. Things even looked worse when the Sox fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. The Sox were able to rebound and win the series with Colorado after a 6-4 win Thursday in the series finale.
Jake Peavy shook off a rough first inning to give the Sox a quality start. Peavy went six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits.
The offensive stars for the Sox Thursday were Gordon Beckham and Juan Pierre. Beckham had three hits and had a hand in the first three runs for the Sox while Pierre tied the game in the eighth and had the game winning hit in the 10th.
Jesse Crain earned the win for the Sox to improve his record to 4-2 on the season. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect 10th to earn his 17th save of the season.
Rockies (39-42) starter Aaron Cook went six innings and didn’t figure in on the decision. Cook gave up just one run, but gave up five hits and four walks in his six innings of work. Clayton Mortensen picked up the loss for Colorado dropping his record to 2-4 on the season.
The Sox return to Chicago for round two of the Crosstown Classic this time at Wrigley Field. First game of the series is Friday afternoon.
