A month ago, the Chicago Fire looked like they could be on the verge of making a run to a conference title and possible MLS championship. Now, they're in a one game playoff with the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday night at Toyota Park, and are at risk of not even making it to the Eastern Conference semi-finals. The Fire went 1-4-1 over the past month to slip into a tie for third, but lost the tie-breaker to the New York.
However, not all is lost yet. The Fire's opposition, the Dynamo, were in a similar position last season, and were still able to make a run to the MLS championship game. The Fire went 1-0-2 against the Dynamo this season, winning their most recent game 3-1 back in September.
Since this is a playoff game, if there is a tie after 90 minutes, the teams will play two 15 minute periods of extra time. A tie at that point will result in the teams going to penalty kicks.
