The Cubs have lost six straight against the Brewers, a streak Jeff Samardzija hopes to break when he takes the mound for Chicago Wednesday night.
Chicago has dropped the first two games of a four-game set, but had also been swept in a quick trip up to Milwaukee last week and had dropped the final two games of a series in Wisconsin back in June. The Cubs might not be having the best year, but even as such, the Brewers have really had their number, winning 11 of 14 matchups between the two squads thus far this season.
Samardzija has put together a decent stretch of pitching: in his last ten starts, he's allowed less than two earned runs in seven, while pitching at least seven innings six times. But as is typical on a team whose sole run Tuesday came on a solo shot by the pitcher, the offense hasn't been there in support for Samardzija, as the strong stretch of pitching has only seen Samardzija win two games. He'll face off against Mike Fiers, who struck out 10 in 6.2 innings his last start against Pittsburgh.
