Ryan Dempster likely isn't long for the Chicago Cubs. Like almost everybody, Ryan Dempster knows this, but as he readies to return from the disabled list, he told reporters that he isn't being bothered by persistent trade rumors.
"That's OK, they've been there, so it doesn't bother me," Dempster said Friday. "I'm just going to try and do my job the best I can and let all those things take care of themselves. Just focus on going out there and taking it one start at a time, one pitch at a time and just go from there."
Dempster will be a valuable trade chip for the Cubs, and if he can remain healthy it's hard to imagine that Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein will hold onto him. At any point, a Ryan Dempster start could be his last in a Cubs uniform.
