Chicago White Sox righty SP Jake Peavy made a strong bid for an appearance in the 2012 MLB All-Star Game, but the Japanese sensation SP Yu Darvish ultimately won out in the 2012 Final Vote.
Over the final hour of the public vote, conducing both at MLB.com and on Twitter via hashtags, Peavy made some impressive gains on Darvish, according to the MLB official Twitter account:
NON-TWITTER UPDATE - LAST HOUR: Peavy on top in AL w/33% more votes than Yu. Bourn and Harper tied for 2nd with their eyes on Freese.

But the Twitter presence of Darvish -- whose name was trending worldwide during the final hours of voting -- proved too much for the Peavy supporters:
And the #FinalVote winners are ... Yu Darvish and David Freese! Watch them in the #ASG on FOX on July 10. And thanks again for voting!
