2012 MLB Trade Rumors: Darwin Barney Among The League's Top Second Basemen Targets

Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors names Chicago Cubs infielder 2B Darwin Barney as a potential trade target in his recent column. According to Nicholson-Smith, Barney's solid play and relative youth could make him a prize target for certain teams:

Darwin Barney, Cubs - Rival teams have asked about Barney, but there's no reason for the Cubs to rush a deal. Barney won't even be arbitration eligible until after the 2013 season and he has an acceptable .264/.309/.371 batting line.

Barney was the surprise winner of the second baseman competition in the 2011 Cubs Spring Training. Then-manager Mike Quade was impressed by Barney's defensive abilities and gave him the starting role ahead of Jeff Baker and Mike Fontenot.
