Upton has been a recurring fixture of trade rumors in the 2012 season, but the recent rumors mark the first time the Chicago Cubs have been cited as a possible trade partner. The Diamondbacks currently sport a 52-51 record, just 3.5 games back from the NL West division lead and may be looking for an impact pitcher to help push them towards the 2012 playoffs.
The Cubs, meanwhile, have begun selling off players in an effort to build for the 2013 season and later as they currently sit 17.5 games back from first in the NL Central.
