A Starlin Castro single and Anthony Rizzo home run gave the Cubs a 3-1 lead after the first inning, but Chicago just wasn't able to keep pace with the power-hitting Cardinals, who came back with four runs in the second inning and claimed the lead for good on a home run in the top of the fourth inning.
Wood allowed eight runs on seven hits. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn wasn't much better in giving up six runs on eight hits over five innings of work.
