Cardinals Vs. Cubs Score Update: Travis Wood Allows 5 Homers, Chicago Trails 9-6

Chicago Cubs lefty SP Travis Wood had a four-game win streak going in early July, but in his two starts since then, he allowed a combined 14 runs. Make that 22 runs. Wood allowed 8 ER in his 5.0 innings of work on Friday, allowing five home runs to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Despite the overwhelming outburst from the Cards lineup, the Cubs have managed to keep within striking distance. Entering the bottom of the 8th inning, the Cubs trail only 9-6. 1B Anthony Rizzo has a three-run home run to his credit, and SS Starlin Casto and C Geovany Soto are both 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and a double respectively.

Since Wood left in the fifth inning, the duo of RP Jeff Beliveau and RP Manuel Corpas have combined for two strikeouts and no earned runs.
