The Chicago Cubs are presumably hoping that lefty starter Travis Wood can straighten himself out as the St. Louis Cardinals visit Wrigley Field on Friday. The 25-year-old has struggled badly in his past two starts since the All Star Break.
Wood had emerged as a pretty solid starter for the Cubs in June and early July, but he's stumbled in his past two starts against the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins, both losses for Chicago. Over 10.2 innings since the break, he's allowed 15 runs (14 earned) on 17 hits with ten strikeouts and four walks.
The Cardinals have Lance Lynn going on Friday, and he's in the midst of a nice little roll himself. Over his past three starts, the pitcher has allowed just one run on 14 hits over 19 innings with 22 strikeouts and five walks.
Location: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Ill.
Game Date & Time: Friday, July 27, 1:20 p.m. CT
TV: CSN-Chicago
