Monday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves beat reporter had announced the Cubs had traded Dempster to the Braves, but the announcement preceded Dempster's approval and left the 35-year-old pitcher felt "blindsided" when heard about the trade via the media.
Dempster, as a 10 and 5 veteran (10 years in the league, 5 with his present team), has the ability to veto any trade the Cubs present to him. He reportedly has an interest to play on the west coast.
