Chicago Cubs right-hander Matt Garza will miss a scheduled start on Friday due to triceps soreness in his right arm. The injury forced Garza out of his last start after just three scoreless innings on July 21 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Dale Sveum said Travis Wood will likely take his place in the rotation.
Garza has been the focal point of trade speculation for months, with the Los Angeles Dodgers often cited as a willing trade partner. Garza's health will be paramount to helping a deal go through before the MLB's July 31st deadline. The Cubs kept mum on whether a stint on the disabled list was in store for Garza, though the team would obviously like to see him make one more healthy start before the deadline.
