Cubs Vs. Pirates Final Score: Jeff Samardzija Shines In 1-0 Cubs Victory

Jeff Samardzija allowed only hit over eight innings during a 2-0 Chicago Cubs victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday at PNC Park. The win improves Samardzija to7-8 on the season, and the Cubs to 39-56 overall. Pittsburgh falls to 54-41 in defeat.

Alfonso Soriano did all of the damage for the Cubs. Soriano doubled to deep center in the fourth to score Starlin Castro to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. Soriano doubled in Castro again in the ninth with a shot to right-center.

Carlos Marmol nailed down his 12th save for the Cubs with two strikeouts and one hit allowed in the ninth inning.

There was only six hits combined in the game, but the victory is the Cubs' first over the Pirates this season.
