Cubs Transactions 2012: Chicago Signs SS Frandy De La Rosa Out Of The Dominican Republic

According to Baseball America, the Chicago Cubs have come to terms with international free agent SS Frandy de la Rosa:

The highly-touted shortstop will join the Cubs minor leagues with a $700,000 signing bonus. The 16-year-old stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds and is not generally expected to remain at shortstop by the time he reaches the majors.

The Cubs are no strangers to signing foreign free agents. One of the team's 2012 All-Star representatives -- SS Starlin Castro -- originally signed with the team as an amateur free agent out of the Domincan Republic in 2006.
