MLB Trade Rumors 2012: Dodgers Won't Trade Zach Lee For Rental Player Like Ryan Dempster

The Los Angeles Dodgers won't trade top pitching prospect Zach Lee in a deal for a rental player such as Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. It had previously been speculated that Lee would fit in such a deal given Chicago's desire to add young pitching through trades this sumer.

As Rosenthal notes, the Dodgers need offense far more than they need pitching, so it's difficult to see them giving up arguably their most valuable pitching prospect in order to add a veteran pitcher that's due to hit free agency after the season.

Lee, 20, was rated as the No. 62 prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America before the season. After beginning the season by pitching fairly well in the hitter-friendly California League, he's struggled badly in four starts with Double-A Chattanooga since being promoted.
