ESPN's Jayson Stark says he's been told by a source that the Boston Red Sox are out of the running for Chicago Cubs righthander Ryan Dempster. But the Red Sox remain in the mix for Matt Garza.

Several clubs have shown some interest in acquiring Dempster, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. Dempster has a 1.86 ERA, which is easily the lowest of his career. He's 5-3 in 14 starts.
