Matt Garza Trade Rumors: Cubs And Royals In Talks For Righty

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports is reporting the Kansas City Royals have inquired about Chicago Cubs righty SP Matt Garza. According to Knobler, the Royals want a pitcher who is under team control through 2013, given their unlikeliness to compete in the 2012 MLB season.

Garza, who will not be a free agent until 2014, has struggled with the home run ball in the 2012 MLB season, but has a career-low walk rate (7.3%) and the second-highest strikeout rate (22.6%) of his career.

The Royals are rich in position player prospects, but their 2012 pitching staff has the 4th worst ERA in the American League (4.39 ERA) and 5th worst FIP (4.18 FIP). Their starting rotation -- with a 5.31 ERA -- is second worst in the AL.
