Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Paul Maholm hit a home run on Saturday night, but that was just about the only high point for both the pitcher and the team. Maholm's fourth inning bomb put the Cubs up 2-1, but it wouldn't stay that way for very long, as the Diamondbacks would score six runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 7-2. They would not look back.
Maholm would exit the game after 3.1 innings having given up nine hits and six earned runs, continuing a trend in 2012 where Maholm has been solid at home but an absolute disaster on the road. After Saturday night's game in Arizona, Maholm's ERA away from Wrigley Field ballooned to 7.15.
The two teams will finish up their weekend series on Sunday at 3:10 p.m. CT.
