The Atlanta Braves had top talent evaluator Jim Fregosi watch Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Garza's recent start against the White Sox, as ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine told readers in a recent chat. Rumors have tied numerous teams to Garza recently, with Levine noting that as many as seven other teams may be interested.
With starter Brandon Beachy potentially needing Tommy John surgery, the Braves are reportedly on the lookout for another starter to join the rotation. At the moment, Jair Jurrjens is being promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace Beachy in Atlanta's rotation, but his 5.27 ERA in the minors this season doesn't exactly speak well to how he's pitched this year.
Garza had some mixed results in his start on Monday against the Sox, giving up two homers as part of a three-run, six-inning outing that included six strikeouts. His ERA sits at 4.07 over 13 starts this season.
