Though Chicago Cubs ace, SP Matt Garza, is a highly sought-after trade chip this season, the veteran hurler is not thinking about anything but his pitching:
"Five days is the farthest I look," Garza said afterward. "I can’t control anything. I don’t know what’s going to happen or what might happen or anything like that. So my job is to get ready every five days and go out there and give my team the best chance to win. That’s about it. That’s all I can do."
The Cubs traded for Garza in the 2011 MLB offseason, sending a collection of top prospects to the Tampa Bay Rays. He went on to have a career year with the Cubs as he threw 198 innings of 3.32 ERA, 2.95 FIP baseball. He currently is under team control through 2013, but at age 28, he may not fit into the Cubs long-term plans.
