As part of a series of moves to free up roster space for catcher Geovany Soto, the Chicago Cubs have placed Ryan Dempster on the 15-day disabled list with right lat tightness, as Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. The move generally comes as a surprise given that Dempster has looked so good over the past few weeks.
Dempster on DL with right lat tightness. Main up. Soto up, Castillo down.

In his past three starts, Dempster has pitched 22 consecutive shutout innings, allowing just 11 hits and three walks while striking out 12. It remains to be seen how this injury, which appears to be fairly minor, will ultimately affect Dempster's value on the trade market, but hopefully teams will remember how he looked before the DL stint.
