Good news on the North Side comes in miniscule and intermediate doses this season, but supporters of the Chicago Cubs should be comforted knowing their team did not get no-hit today. Baby steps, people.
Despite sizable pregame hype and ESPN's most esteemed baseball writer flat out calling it on Twitter, Alfonso Soriano broke up Justin Verlander's no-no early on and the Cubs even have themselves a couple of runs at time of publish. What's become more newsworthy, however, is multiple reporters covering the Cubs stating they've never seen so many fans of an opposing team at Wrigley in their lives.
Long-time Tribune reporter Paul Sullivan noticed it first:
If you are the only Cubs fan at Wrigley Field today, give me a hollah. #MotownInvasion

ESPN Chicago's Doug Padilla added:
Just spoke to a long-time Cubs observer (OK it was @PWSullivan) who says Wrigley has never been invaded like this. Tigers fans out in force.

Said our very own Dennis Tarwood:
@ESPNChiCubs @PWSullivan I was on Michigan Ave. yesterday and every tenth shirt invoked the Tigers. Lots of families.

Where you at today, Cubs fans? At work, probably.
