On Thursday morning the Chicago Cubs placed third baseman Ian Stewart on the disabled list with a wrist injury, and now Luis Valbuena -- the corresponding Triple-A promotion -- will start in his place at third base against the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander on Thursday afternoon. Valbuena produced a .303/.378/.507 triple-slash line at Triple-A Iowa over 246 plate appearances, but he may be in for a difficult return to the MLB with Verlander (5-4, 2.69 ERA) on the bump for Detroit. The Cubs will counter with Travis Wood (0-2, 4.71 ERA).
