It probably wasn't Rudy Jaramillo's fault the Chicago Cubs boast one of the most punchless lineups in the majors, but that didn't save the hitting coach's job on Tuesday afternoon. Jaramillo was fired abruptly before the North Siders begin a three-game set with the Detroit Tigers, with collective brain trust Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer citing "philosophical differences". This probably wasn't a case of a hitting coach being blamed for his team running out the equivalent of a Quadruple-A lineup. This was inevitable, and more than anything a sign of the new regime wanting to put its own people in place.
What's funny, though, is that the Cubs did not take very long to rid themselves of Jaramillo's presence at Wrigley Field. Where there was once a photo of a man, there is now an empty picture frame. Take a look at the photo, after the jump...
