The Chicago Cubs are looking to avoid their tenth straight defeat when they visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. A loss would give Chicago its first ten-game losing streak in over 15 years, a reflection on how far this team will need to go before being competitive again under Theo Epstein and company.
Over Chicago's past six games, the team has scored just 12 runs, with manager Dale Sveum discussing possible lineup changes if things don't improve. The team does have Ryan Dempster on the mound looking for his first start of the season, though, so the Cubs should be able to expect some solid pitching.
This season, Dempster has a 2.28 ERA over his first seven starts, striking out 44 and walking 14 over 47.1 innings of work. Despite those impressive numbers, the Cubs have won just one of his outings so far this season as run support has been miserable.
Game date/time: Friday, May 25, 7:05 p.m. CT
Location: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pa.
TV: CSN+
