The Chicago Cubs loaded the bases in the ninth inning for star shortstop Starlin Castro, but Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford struck out Castro on three pitches to nail down a 7-5 win for the Brewers. The Cubs fall to 1-3 with the loss, while Milwaukee improves to 2-2.
Starter Chris Volstad allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out six for Chicago in five innings. Reliever Shawn Camp allowed five hits and three earned runs in relief of Volstad.
Former Cub Aramis Ramirez drove in two runs for the Brewers. Second baseman Rickie Weeks hit a home run for Milwaukee in the third inning.
Second baseman Darwin Barney and first baseman Bryan LaHair each hit home runs for the Cubs.
