According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Chicago Cubs have lost LHP John Gaub to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays claimed Gaub off waivers on Thursday, adding the twice-drafted University of Minnesota graduate to their 40-man roster.
Gaub pitched only 2 and 2/3 innings for the Cubs 2011 as he made 4 appearances out of the Cubs bullpen. Gaub owns the uncommon disctinction of being drafted twice, once by the Minnesota Twins in the 2003 amateur draft and once in 2006 by the Cleveland Indians -- both times in late rounds (25th and 21st respectively).
The 27-year-old lefty threw 55 and 1/3 innings for the Cubs Triple-A affiliate in 2011, sporting a 3.42 ERA and 4.12 FIP.
