The Chicago Cubs wrapped up their spring training schedule on Tuesday with a 5-3 win over Milwaukee, finishing their Cactus League slate with a 17-16 record. Several of the players that the Cubs will rely on during the regular season had solid springs:
Starlin Castro: .311/.312/.527 with 2 HR, 9 2B, 9 RBI
Alfonso Soriano: .286/.267/.696 with 6 HR and 18 RBI
Geovany Soto: .318/.388/.705 with 4 HR and 12 RBI
Jeff Samardzija pitched 20 innings this spring, striking out 16 while walking just one batter. He posted a 4.50 ERA. Matt Garza struggled with his control, walking nine over 16-1/3 innings.
But now the slate is clean, and they'll look toward a regular season in which not many expect them to compete for a postseason bid.
