According to The Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Cubs have already set their Opening Day linuep:
- RF David DeJesus
- 2B Darwin Barney
- SS Starlin Castro
- 1B Bryan LaHair
- LF Alfonso Soriano
- 3B Ian Stewart
- CF Marlon Byrd
- C Geovany Soto
- P Ryan Dempster
The Cubs, who are featuring this lineup on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, would prefer to have more players with high on-base percentages, but, says manager Dale Svuem, they only have outfielder David DeJesus who fits that mold:
"On this team we don’t have a whole lot of on-base percentage guys to evaluate that way. You evaluate more on productivity. Hopefully the on-base percentage happens without maneuvering the lineup because of it because we don’t have any proven guys besides DeJesus that has any longevity to say he’s had a decent on-base percentage."
The Cubs begin the 2012 MLB regular season on Thursday with a 1:20 p.m. CDT game against the Washington Nationals.
