Cubs Spring Training 2012: Maholm Takes The Hill Vs. Padres

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Paul Maholm has almost certainly secured a spot in the team's starting rotation for this season, but he can make it even more likely with a solid start today vs. the San Diego Padres. Maholm has looked good in very limited time this spring, giving up four hits and one earned run in five innings while striking out four and walking two. Today will be his third start of the spring, and it's likely that he will be stretched out longer than either of the two previous starts.

Here's split-squad line up, with the first pitch taking place at 3:05 p.m. CT:

  1. Reed Johnson, CF
  2. Darwin Barney, 2B
  3. Starlin Castro, SS
  4. Bryan LaHair, 1B
  5. Geovany Soto, C
  6. Jeff Baker, RF
  7. Edgar Gonzalez, 3B
  8. Tony Campana, LF
  9. Paul Maholm, SP
