Cubs Spring Training 2012: Travis Wood Shaky In Loss

New Chicago Cubs acquisition Travis Wood is still battling for a start at the back of the team's rotation, but starts like the one he had on Saturday aren't going to help him much. Wood threw 3.2 innings against the San Diego Padres, giving up five hits and three earned runs and only striking out one batter, bring his spring ERA to 17.28.

Wood got through his first three innings unscathed, but things began to unravel in the fourth when he gave up a single to Padres top catching prospect Yasmani Grandal and then hit outfielder Jeremy Hermida. After an out, second basemen Jonathan Galvez followed with a single to score Grandal. After another out, Wood was pulled and replaced by lefty Trever Miller who gave up a two-run double to Padres outfielder Will Venable.
