The latest news out of the Chicago Cubs' camp helps clear the muddied picture of the Cubs 2012 rotation:
Sveum says Maholm a lock for rotation. Not a surprise. Two spots to go and Volstad, Samardzija seem to be the favorites.— Doug Padilla (@ESPNChiCubs) March 20, 2012
Lefty SP Paul Maholm joined the Cubs as a free agent this offseason after spending the last seven years as a starter for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With Maholm taking a rotation spot, the Cubs 2012 starters should look something like this:
1. Matt Garza
2. Ryan Dempster
3. Paul Maholm
A group including SP Chris Volstad, SP Travis Wood and SP Jeff Samardzija are currently battling for the remaining two spots.
