The latest news out of the Chicago Cubs' camp helps clear the muddied picture of the Cubs 2012 rotation:

Lefty SP Paul Maholm joined the Cubs as a free agent this offseason after spending the last seven years as a starter for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With Maholm taking a rotation spot, the Cubs 2012 starters should look something like this:
1. Matt Garza
2. Ryan Dempster
3. Paul Maholm
4. open
5. open
A group including SP Chris Volstad, SP Travis Wood and SP Jeff Samardzija are currently battling for the remaining two spots.
