Cubs trade Carlos Marmol for pitcher Dan Haren

The Chicago Cubs acquired Dan Haren from the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

The Chicago Cubs have acquired Dan Haren from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Carlos Marmol, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Haren went 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA and a 142 strikeouts in 30 starts for the Angels last year. For his career, Haren is 119-77 with a 3.66 ERA and 1,585 strikeouts in 296 career games with the Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals.

Haren had his best season in 2008 for Arizona when he won 16 games while striking out 206 batters.

Marmol has spent all six of his pro seasons with the Cubs and made 61 relief appearances for Chicago in 2012. Marmol was 3-3 with a 3.42 ERA and 72 strikeouts for Chicago last season. Marmol is 21-28 with a 3.38 ERA in 452 appearances for the Cubs since 2006.

The Cubs signed Marmol as an undrafted free agent from the Dominican Republic in 1999.
