The Chicago Cubs have signed reliever Shawn Camp to a one-year, $1.35 million deal, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com on Twitter. There is a chance to make $200,000 in performance bonuses in the contract. Camp made just $550,000 last year, and was effective out of the bullpen in 2012.
Camp pitched 77 2/3 innings, and had a 3.59 earned run average. He's 37 years old and has spent his career jumping from team to team, but has earned an increase of pay after a good 2012.
He was cut from the Seattle Mariners prior to being signed by the Cubs last year. Reported interest in him prior to that signing was very low across MLB. He appeared in 80 games, which tied for the whole league in appearances and ranked fifth in the National League with his 77 2/3 innings.
He struck out 54 and walked 21 over the course of the season.
