Theo Epstein is not blaming Manager Dave Sveum for the Cubs' disappointing season but is instead applauding the culture that he's maintained in the clubhouse this year.
Epstein told Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com:
"Dale’s done a fantastic job," Epstein said before Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field. "The hundred losses are not his fault in the least bit. He’s done a really good job of maintaining as much of a winning culture as he possibly can during a season like this."
The Cubs have clinched the second-worst record in baseball this year with a record of 60-101 with one game left to play. Chicago will conclude their series with the Houston Astros who are the only team worse than the Cubs with a record of 55-106, on Wednesday.
The Astros have won the first two games in the series and the Cubs have lost nine of their last 10 games overall.
