Astros vs. Cubs preview: Chicago, Houston to end disappointing seasons

The Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros will end their forgettable 2012 seasons on Wednesday afternoon in Wrigley Field. On the hill for the Cubs will be Travis Wood -- one of the lone bright spots for the team this year -- while the Astros will trot out Edgar Gonzalez.

Wood started strong this season before tailing off in the second half, but he showed that he's likely to be part of Chicago's future as a member of the backend of the rotation. Wood has allowed three runs or less in six of his last eight starts and has dominated the Astros this season, allowing only three earned runs in 21 innings over three starts.

Gonzalez, meanwhile, has posted an ERA slightly over four in five starts this season, though his WHIP (1.02) and BAA (.220) have been low. He's also struck out 17 batters in the 21.2 innings he's pitched while only walking four.

First pitch is at 1:20 p.m. and WGN will have the call.
