Kerry Wood not interested in Cubs' broadcast position

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood told CSN Chicago's David Kaplan on Thursday that he has no interest in replacing Bob Brenly in the Cubs' broadcast booth.

Rumors have swirled around Wood potentially taking Brenly's place as the Cubs' TV analyst since Brenly announced that he was vacating the position on Wednesday. However, Wood, who will work for the organization in an undetermined role, shot down any speculation almost immediately.

"I have no interest in the position. I will be at spring training with the Cubs and I will work for the organization but I have no interest in becoming a broadcaster."

A host of candidates to fill the void left by Brenly have surfaced, including former Cubs players Todd Hollandsworth, Rick Sutcliffe, Dan Plesac, Eric Karros and Doug Glanville, all of whom currently hold jobs in the industry. In addition, Steve Stone's name has come up, although he is under contract with the Chicago White Sox and has said that he will be back in their booth next season.

Wood retired in May after spending 15 years in the big leagues, 13 of which came with the Cubs. Wood posted a 3.67 ERA in 446 career appearances and struck out more than a batter per inning.
