Adios Big Z

↵

A fan favorite for many years and an emotional mess the rest of his tenure. The Chicago Cubs have finally parted ways with Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano is heading to Miami to join friend and new Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen. Just when you thought Guillen would provide enough story lines and quotes for the Miami press, now add Big Z to the circus.

↵

The Marlins have been a team that has been under the radar most of their tenure in the Major Leagues. With the exception of their two World Series teams, the Marlins have been more known for their low attendance figures, than their play on the field.

↵

With Guillen and Zambrano on board the Marlins may now receive as many press pass requests as the Dallas Cowboys or New York Yankees.

↵

Some fans of the Cubs will miss Zambrano, but it was time for him to go. Not only has his pitching started to decline, but his on the field behavior has gone from cute to becoming a major distraction. Whether it was arguing with teammates in the dugout, on field blow ups, or other needs for anger management, there was no way Zambrano could have pitched another game on the North Side.

↵

A change of scenery may be just what Carlos needs. He is now playing for a manager that won't put up with his crap and that might help him out.

↵

Sure the Cubs had to eat a bunch of his salary, but it was a move that needed to be done. Getting a young arm like Chris Volstad in return is a nice bonus. Volstad has potential to be a very solid middle of the rotation guy for many years to come.

Nice job by Theo and upper management to make this trade happen. I wish Carlos the best of luck on South Beach. This could end up to be a great trade for all parties involved.
