According to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com, the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox have turned to Bud Selig to settle the long gestating issue of compensation between the two teams.
The issue of compensation has been up hotly debated since even before Epstein officially left the Red Sox for the Cubs, and though early speculation focused on some of Chicago's top prospects, it seems unlikely at this juncture that any Cub of major significance will be sent over to the Red Sox.
Epstein noted in a radio interview last week that he and current Red Sox GM Ben Cherington had five discussions about the compensation issue, and despite getting close on agreeing to a deal, were not able to finalize anything that both sides could agree on.
