All signs on Sunday seemed to point towards a high scoring game. Gavin Floyd has struggled against the Cubs (35-50) in his career and veteran Rodrigo Lopez had an ERA of 38.35 in his previous starts against the Sox (42-43). Lopez was able to get over his previous struggles holding the White Sox to just two infield hits in his seven innings of work and lead the Cubs to a 3-1 Victory.
Runs were hard to come by in the series finale between the Sox and Cubs. The Cubs were able to score three in the fourth inning after a triple by Starlin Castro and a two-run homer by Aramis Ramirez. The White Sox did threaten in the 8th, but only were able to get one across as the Cubs were able to salvage one game in the series.
Rodrigo Lopez picked a great day to earn his first win as a Cub. Lopez (1-2) went seven innings and allowed no runs on just two infield singles. Carlos Marmol got the last four outs to earn his 17th save of the season.
Gavin Floyd took the loss for the Sox. Floyd (6-8) went seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
The White Sox took the season series 4-2 and finished interleague play with an 11-7 record. The Cubs ended interleague play with a 5-10 record.
The White Sox will return home Monday for a series against the Royals while the Cubs will travel to our Nationals Capital to begin a series with the Nationals.
