Cubs Losing Streak Longest Since 2010

What started out as a promising trip to the mound for Doug Davis quickly turned ugly, and the Cubs dropped yet another winnable game. Their losing streak has now extended to eight, the first such time since May of 2010.

Doug Davis was able to hold the game close four four innings — backed by doubles by Aramis Ramirez and Blake DeWitt, but the wheels came off in the bottom of the fifth. Davis exited after pitching just 4 2/3, while giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks.

The rest of the damage was allowed by John Grabow, who pitched a single inning, but gave up four more runs. The only offense the Cubs could muster on the night came on the dobules by Ramirez and DeWitt, and an RBI hit by Lou Motnanez in the ninth. Edinson Volquez, though getting into a bit of trouble early, regained his composure and threw 7.0 innings, giving up just one run on seven hits, while striking out five.

The Cubs will try to end their slide and avert the sweep as the two teams play an early game on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch will be at 11:35 A.M., CDT.
