Aramis Ramirez singled in the winning run in a pinch hit at bat as the Cubs took game three of their series with the Giants 3-2.
Ryan Dempster threw a beauty of a game, out dueling Tim Lincecum. Dempster went eight innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out six. The only run came in the ninth inning, as Dempster allowed a leadoff double to Pat Burrell. Dempster was then lifted for Carlos Marmol. Marmol struck out Andres Torres, but then gave up an RBI single to Emmanuel Burriss to tie the game at 1.
The trouble didn’t end for Marmol with the Burriss single. An intentional walk to Pablo Sandoval was followed by an Aubrey Huff single to load the bases. Marmol manged to get Cody Ross to ground into a double player, though, to end the inning.
In the ninth inning Tony Campana led off with a single off of Sergio Romo. Reed Johnson moved Campana to second on a sacrifice, and Campana then took third on a Geovany Soto groundout. Ramirez entered the game in place of Marmol, and singled to left field to score Campana and win the game.
Though he took the loss, Tim Lincecum had a good night, pitching seven innings and giving up one run on five hits and two walks, while striking out nine.
The Cubs and Giants will play the last game of their four game series on Thursday afternoon. First pitch will be at 1:20 P.M., CDT.
